When it comes to ordering a celebration cake, there are several factors to consider. First and foremost is the flavour of the cake. A popular option is a classic Victoria sponge cake, which is often considered a safe choice as most people enjoy a slice of this delicious cake. Sponge have taken it a step further with our sharing cake options, allowing everyone to have a slice of their favourite flavour at a party.
Next, you will need to consider the size of the cake. Celebration cakes come in a range of sizes, from small single-tiered cakes to large multi-tiered cakes. It is important to consider the number of guests you will be serving, as well as the space you have available for the cake, when choosing the size of the cake. We offer two sizes of cake, a cake for 8 or a cake for 16, our portion sizes are very generous, so they are likely to feed more than the recommended slices.
Another important factor to consider when ordering a celebration cake is the design. You may want to consider a design that matches the theme of the celebration, or choose a design that reflects the interests or personality of the person being celebrated. An easy way of creating a cake to suit a party theme or someone’s personality is with a photo cake. Photo cakes are ideal, all you need to do is upload a favourite photo and it will be printed on an edible icing disc and placed on top of your chosen cake. There is also the option of using a pre-designed topper and just adding some text to personalise it.
When it comes to the cake filling, there are many options to choose from. Popular fillings include fruit jams and preserves, and buttercream. We use flavoured buttercream in most of our cakes (or vegan buttercream for our vegan cakes), and occasionally jams depending on the flavour. We also have the option of pinata cake to add an extra surprise to the jubilations when the first slice is served.
Once you have decided on the flavour, size, and design of your celebration cake, it is important to place your order in advance. Many bakeries require a minimum of two to three weeks' notice for celebration cake orders, especially for large, elaborate cakes. However, Sponge is different, we offer next day delivery for most of our cakes, so if you have a cake emergency or need a quick turn-around cake, you just need to place your order by 3pm to get it the following day. It is also a good idea to consider any dietary restrictions or allergies for guests at your party; we are able to accommodate special requests such as gluten-free or dairy-free cakes, as we have several ranges available to suit your needs.
When it comes to the cost of the cake, it will depend on the size, design, and flavour of the cake. It’s important to stick to a budget wherever you can, and we like to ensure that there is an affordable option for everyone, so we have cakes available at various price points, to suit all of your requirements. Transporting a celebration cake can be an interesting feat of engineering and logistics, especially the larger and more complicated they are. The issue with larger celebration cakes, particularly tall ones, is that they need to be well packaged and transported flat, to avoid collapse or movement. It takes a lot of practice to transport cakes; however, we’ve perfected our packaging, making it possible to even transport our wedding celebration cakes across the country.
