Summer time, and the weather is mighty fine. We always feel a lot better in the summer, the longer days and increased exposure to sunlight makes everything feel more positive. It also makes us want to spend more time outside when it’s a nice sunny day. When you’re looking for something affordable to do, one of the best things is packing up a lunch and a blanket and enjoying a picnic somewhere. You could choose the park, or the beach, whatever best suits you.
The nice thing about having a picnic is that you can do it your way. There’s really no right or wrongs, you can pretty much bring any pre-cooked food you want, the only thing you need to watch out for is ants’ nests if you’re going to the park!
Here’s a list of things to you could take with you:
- Plates (preferably non-breakable reusable ones)
- Cutlery (reusable)
- Cups (reusable)
- A blanket (you may need a couple depending on how many people are attending)
- A rubbish bag (make sure you take it all your rubbish home to dispose of properly)
- Resealable contains (in case there are any leftovers)
- A cool box (great for keeping your drinks and fridge bits cold)
If you’re wondering what the best food for a picnic is, well like we say, there are fairly few rules. Just like with most things, being prepared will help you. Most people choose simple cold foods, but if there is anything that needs to be cooked that can be eaten cold at the picnic, it’s probably best practice to try and prepare those bits the night before if you can. Other things you could include in a picnic are salads, coleslaw, sandwiches, cocktail sausages, etc. Finger foods are a great option, everyone can get stuck in easily when finger foods are involved.
Something sweet always goes down a treat, what you choose to take with you is something to consider. Cakes and bakes are an easy choice of something to take, they are easy to eat by hand, so you don’t need to worry about taking extra bowls and cutlery. We have lots of options that are ideal for picnics, so we’re sure you’ll find something to delight everyone with while enjoying some fresh air and summer sun.
Baby Sponges – These individually wrapped delights are ideal for a picnic, for one thing, you don’t have to worry so much about any creepy crawlies ruining your picnic. You can leave them sealed until you’re ready to eat them. They are available in pre-selected packs, or you can choose your own and make sure everyone gets their favourite flavour.
Baby Brownies – Just like our baby sponge cakes, our baby brownies are miniature versions of our big brownies. They are also individually wrapped and available in a few different flavours, so there are plenty of choices to please everyone.
Super Sharing Cake – Our Super Sharing Cake has fourteen different flavoured wedges and makes a stunning centrepiece for a picnic. Ideal when you’re not sure what flavours everyone likes. Try all our most popular cake flavours in one go! Carrot, Chocolate, Victoria, Lemon, Coffee, Biscoff Speculoos, Red Velvet, Sticky Toffee, Rocky Road, Millionaires, Apple Crumble, Chocolate Orange, Chocolate & Caramel and Seasonal Special.
Lemon Cake – The sponge is infused with natural lemon oil and made with eggs to create a light and fluffy citrus cake. Natural lemon oil is also used in the buttercream and white chocolate is drizzled on top. A perfect cake to enjoy in the summer sun.
Lemon and Blueberry Cake – A luscious lemon sponge is infused with natural lemon flavours and studded with whole blueberries throughout the sponge cake layer. We mix powdered blueberries with our buttercream to create the vibrant, yet creamy, blueberry buttercream that runs between the cake layers. More buttercream is slathered across the top layer of the cake, which is finished with a delicious and beautiful white chocolate lattice.
