A Sweet Success
£1971.05 raised for The Royal Marsden Charity with the Coronation Bake Off winning cake, a Honey & Plum Sponge - Created by the winner, Jenni Selby.
Sponge Cakes, your go-to bakery for scrumptious delights, is bursting with joy to announce that its Honey & Plum masterpiece has whipped up a whopping £1,971.05 for The Royal Marsden Charity. This fantastic collaboration between Sponge Cakes and the charity isn't just about cakes; it's a party for your taste buds and a celebration of giving.
Back in May, Sponge created a nationwide competition for bakers across the UK to enter their favourite bakes for The Coronation Bake Off - prizes included a luxury Spa retreat at The Pigs an ultimate Sponge bundle and for their cake to be created and sold online. With over 1,000 entries to choose from, Jenni was the winner with her tasty Honey & Plum Sponge. When creating the winning sponge, Jenni wanted to ensure it was relevant to the King and chose to include plums, knowing King Charles starts every morning with a plum. Asking Jenni, “What do you think makes the perfect sponge recipe?”, she replied, ''It's all about using the best quality ingredients.'' And Sponge strongly agrees, using only quality British ingredients in every Sponge cake!
After being announced as the winner, Jenni celebrated her victory with her family with a slice of cake. She decided to choose The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in honour of her father-in-law, who was treated there for prostate cancer. The Royal Marsden Charity, your cancer-fighting superhero, has made the world better for over a century. And now, thanks to Jenni's popular Honey & Plum Cake, Sponge has been able to help support their life-changing work in the battle against cancer.
“We are so grateful to Sponge and Jenni for choosing to fundraise for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. This generous support will help us to fund state-of-the-art equipment, the very best patient environments and groundbreaking research to help transform the lives of cancer patients at The Royal Marsden and beyond.”
Amy Mullins, Head of Community Fundraising at The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Sponge Cakes' top honcho, Mark Joll, joined in the excitement, saying, "At Sponge, we believe in sharing sweetness with everyone, including doing good for others. We're over the moon to have raised £1971.05 for The Royal Marsden Charity with our Coronation Bake Off Winner's Cake."
