When you are on a health kick or need to keep an eye on your sugar levels for one reason or another, there’s one thing that you may miss out on; sugar. Most of us fall into the trap of loving sugary things; of course, we do, we’re a cake company! But, when you love sweet stuff, staying away from it can be really difficult.
Like with most things, it’s not always about completely avoiding it, a lot of the time it is about moderation, and keeping an on how much sugar you are taking into your body. This isn’t about testing your sugar levels, necessarily. It’s about being mindful of what you are putting in.
One thing to try and avoid is refined sugar. The problem with refined sugar is that it is quick-release, which means that your body burns through the energy it provides very fast. That can result in sugar highs if you eat too much of it, and sugar lows once it’s all burned away. It’s can be a contributing factor to why it can be hard to regulate sugar levels when you eat it. There are many pitfalls to refined sugar, although it is fine for most people to have it in moderation (provided health care professionals haven’t informed you to avoid it due to health reasons).
So, if you are trying to avoid refined sugar for one reason or another, what do you do to beat those sweet cravings? Artificial sweeteners are an alternative; however, they do come with their own issues. Also, they don’t often have the same effect as refined sugars, especially when it comes to things like baked goods, you have to be very careful with artificial sweeteners because it can cause a bake to have a bit of a chemical taste if you overdo it.
One good alternative, which we think is a much better option is natural sugar alternatives to refined sugar. These usually come in liquid form sugar as Agave syrup, honey, or maple syrup. Now, while these obviously contain sucrose (sugar molecules) like refined sugar, the bigger benefit to this is that because it’s not refined (which essentially concentrates the sugar molecules), the sucrose will release slowly. You will still need to be mindful of how much you consume, but the energy will last a lot longer, rather than burning out quickly.
