To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, Mind Norfolk and Waveney are inviting people around the community to join them for a Walking to Prevent Suicide Relay Challenge. So, when we were asked to join, we agreed to rally the troops and walk the distance to raise money for mind. We were asked to create teams of 4 to take part, to we have formed two groups with a mixture of people from our office team and our bakery team! We will be walking from Holt to Sheringham – a total of 7 miles – on the 16th of September 2021.
There are walks happening all over Norfolk and Waveney and the relay will start from Kings Lynn on the 10th of September (which is World Suicide Prevention Day) and will end in Lowestoft on the 23rd September. On the 23rd September the end of the relay will be marked with a candle light walk in support of those lives touched by suicide.
Why are we walking for Mind? They are busier than ever, 60% of adults and young people who did not experience poor mental health before Covid-19 struck are now experiencing mental health issues. This means that there are more pressures on the services Mind provide than ever before. By raising money for Mind, we can help ensure that no one has to face mental health problems alone. They also do a lot of work to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with metal health, helping those who may otherwise stayed silent and struggle feel able to reach out for help when they need it.
As Mind is a charity, they rely on funds that are raised from the challenges which provide free suicide awareness and intervention training, 1:1 practical and emotional support for individuals bereaved by suicide, peer group support for those bereaved by suicide and peer group for those bereaved through the Covid-19 pandemic.
The work they do is extremely important to communities all over Norfolk and Waveney, and we a proud of our teams for stepping up and joining the walk for Mind.
As this is a walk for charity, we are fund raising alongside doing the walk, all of the money raised will go to Mind to help them continue the work they do for Suicide Prevention, and to support those bereaved by suicide. We have a Just Giving Page where you can donate to sponsor our teams on their walk and give them a boost on their 7-mile journey for mind. We hope you agree that this is a worthy cause and any donation is appreciated no matter how big or small, every pound raised makes a huge difference to the charity.
