It’s been so lovely to read through the inspiring stories you’ve sent in for your Sponge Hero nominations. We’ve been narrowing it down, it was so close to the wire between the entries, but we’ve finally chosen a winner for October.
This month’s winning nomination was sent into us by Lynda:
Lynda nominated her sister-in-law Rosyln and her husband Alasdair and their family. Alasdair’s mother became ill during the summer lockdown as was taking in to hospital for recovery, she was transferred into the care of Rosyln and her family in July. They have three school age children and both work full-time from home. Despite their busy home and work lives they have all pitched in to ensure that Alasdair’s mum has had her medical and emotional needs met throughout, and making visiting relatives feel welcome and comfortable.
They haven’t had a break since, constantly working, and although they were provided with a 2-week respite in October, they weren’t able to enjoy their time off. A relative who they had been in contact with tested positive for Covid-19. So, instead of going away in October for a well-earned break they all had to self-isolate instead.
So, our Sponge heroes award for being all round excellent human beings and ensuring the medical and wellbeing needs of Alasdair’s mum were taken care of, while juggling three children and full-time jobs goes to Rosyln and Alasdair.
A sponge cake for 8 will be making its way to Rosyln and Alasdair soon to say thank you on behalf of Lynda for being her personal heroes. Lynda will also receive a cake card as a thank you from us for sharing her wonderful story.
