At Sponge we work with a huge variety of trade customers across the country. One sector that we have always had great success in is theme parks. We have been lucky enough to work with Merlin Entertainment for around 6 years supplying a range of their attractions with a spectrum of products from our individually wrapped Baby Sponges and Sponge Slices to our Large Sponges for 16.
Gluten free have always been popular choices and our new Vegan Range has gone down well in tastings at the start of this year with all sites we are currently working with taking on at least one Vegan option for the new season. Originally it was our core range that they used, flavours like our Victoria Sponge, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cake, Lemon Cake and Coffee Cake. However, a couple of seasons ago they said they wanted to spice the range up a bit and offer more unusual flavours to grab their customers’ attention. They decided to try our Rocky Road, our Millionaires and our Red Velvet and the results were brilliant.
Increasing sales in all sites and getting great customer feedback. We currently work with Legoland Windsor, Alton Towers and Chessington World of Adventures and it’s great to think that our cakes are being enjoyed by people at during their days out at these iconic attractions as the length of time that we have been working with them shows that they are a popular addiction to their food offering.
Closer to home we also work with number of Theme Parks in Norfolk. Our local trade contacts are really important to us and we have long standing relationships with them dating back to the early days of Sponge. Roarr Dinosaur Adventure Park have been using our cakes almost since we first started and we love to work with them for their special events to do bespoke flavours to fit the event. We have done special Halloween Sponges for their hugely popular PrimEVIL experiences in October and Purple Spotted Sponges for their mascot Dippy the Dinosaur.
Being flexible in terms of creating bespoke products for our trade customers is something that sets us apart from many other cake companies. It’s something that the bakery team enjoy doing as they get to allow their creative juices to start flowing and the results are always impressive. We usually all tuck into a couple of cakes ourselves at Sponge HQ (just to check they are up to scratch of course!). Pleasurewood Hills is another local site we have supplied with various products throughout the year and it’s great to see a more local Theme Park continuing to do well. We all have fond memories from our childhood of visiting and enjoying the rides and experiences they offer. Most recently we did them our cakes for 8 topped with their park mascot ‘Woody’ to be given to children having birthdays at the park.
